Most often we find that a short has developed in the wiring which is usually caused from the trailer moving down the road over the years. You will want to start by tracing as much wiring as you can to look for anywhere the wiring may be damaged. You can verify the motor draw by using leads directly to a battery and an amp meter. The upper keyhole locks the outside handle but still allows it to be opened from the inside for emergency exit. When you use the lower keyhole you engage the integrated deadbolt system. It isn't uncommon for leaf springs to stretch out some overtime, but a 2" difference is a bit much which is why we stress removing the load from leaf springs and measuring center eye to center eye prior to purchasing.
